Camarillo Greek Festival

Keftethes:  This meatball dish comes with traditional flatbread and a yogurt dressing with cucumbers.  The meatballs have lots of seasoning.  It's fantastic.

Galaktoboureko:  This tasted ok, but the texture was off.  I suppose you have to eat it right after it's made.  It's made fresh every day, but I had it at the end of the day.  The moisture from the custard had dampened the once flaky layers of dough.

Souvlaki:  This pork dinner is excellent.  It comes with Greek green beans, rice pilaf, pita bread, a dinner roll and a salad.

Saganaki: Flaming sheep cheese!  What a great highlight!  Sheep cheese is one of the great Mediterranean diet items.  It tastes great and has too many health benefits to mention.

The entertainment was great as usual, though I missed the dance troupes.  The Olympians are as hard-driving as ever, playing much longer than their advertised, scheduled sets.  Yesterday, I heard bass lines from "Louie, Louie" and "Smoke on the Water."  Olympians, if you're reading this, follow your impulses and cut loose for a few minutes.

Write up of the ICF 340 Sandwich Sale

This one caught me by surprised. I was there, and they had the sale. They were out of their tomato and onion sauce, but my meatball sandwich was still fantastic. Unlike other places, you get a lot of meat, and the meatballs stay between the bread.

Photos: The ICF 340 Sandwich Sale

This event is part of foodie paradise. It's not a secret, but it's hard to find. It's open to all, but the sale only lasts for a few hours. They make everything themselves, except for the sfogliatelle and the sodas. It's a great place for breakfast, even though it's all lunch food. I had a sausage sandwich with peppers. After that, it was time for dessert with sfogliatelle. It's some of the best food you can eat at 8:30 in the morning.

While anyone can have a sandwich today, the real cognoscenti have ordered ahead of time. I saw many of them, carrying away big bags of raw meatballs and sausage. Someday, I'll preorder.
